Andrew provides senior counsel and content services across a range of Honner clients.
Joining Honner in 2021 Andrew brings 30 years of journalism experience in Australia and the UK to assessing and addressing the needs of corporate clients. As a news-breaking reporter, bureau chief, daily columnist, feature writer and editor for both The Australian Financial Review and The Australian – he has had a front row seat to the evolution of business, the economy and financial markets. Working inside busy newsrooms places a premium on gathering and digesting large amounts of complex information and distilling it down to the most vital and compelling content.
As well as the day to day of business news Andrew has experience of covering corporate crises from the State Bank of South Australia through to the global financial crisis. In 2008 Andrew won the Walkley Award and Citbank Journalism award as part of the team behind the AFR feature series Inside Job: Who Killed Opes Prime.
As a former business editor at two national newspapers, Andrew has managed large teams of reporters and columnists to tight daily print and online deadlines and established important relationships at senior levels of business and the media. That experience included a final stint as media editor at The Australian which gave deep insights into the evolution of the modern digitally-driven newsroom.
Since leaving journalism in 2019 Andrew gained corporate experience establishing the role of Vice President Marketing and Communications APAC for the fast-growing financier Greensill Capital. In that position he dealt with regulators and governments, marketing events, media relations, content strategy and stakeholder relations – in addition to gaining valuable experience in crisis communications.
In his spare time Andrew is a team manager, committee member and sometime coach at East Sydney Junior AFL club where his two sons play the great Australian game. He also cooks – sometimes even for pleasure – swims, walks the dog and goes to music festivals.
